The Value of Health Education
Most of us take our health for granted. When we were children, our parents taught us to eat only the foods healthy for our body. However, as people grow older, they tend to abuse their bodies. Vices proliferate, and people stuff their bodies with more harmful stuff rather than the helpful ones.
If there had been enough health education for a person, however, then he might have been conscious enough to look after the well being of his body. That is because health education is instrumental in making a person aware about what is good for his body and what is not ideal for it.
Health education also teaches people what to do in order to keep their bodies healthy and fit. This would include lessons that emphasize the importance of exercise. Exercise helps the body burn off fats and prevents it from gaining too much weight. Sweating also lets the body release harmful toxins that might have accumulated from the food and drink that enters a person's body like too much fats, cholesterol and alcohol, among others.
Health education, then, is a tool in which people can use if they expect to live a long and fulfilling life. Since being healthy grants us longevity, we can be certain there is more time for us to remain in this world and do the things that we are meant to do. This would mean seeing our children grow and become parents themselves, as well as seeing them succeed in their individual lives.
Fortunately, health education is taught in all schools. Also, education begins at home. Parents should also take the effort to introduce the virtues of health to their children while still young.
